Amherst Edges Western New England, 16-15

ORLANDO, Fla. – Dylan Park '16 scored four goals as the Amherst College men's lacrosse team edged Western New England University, 16-15, Tuesday in Orlando, Fla.

The Jeffs (4-1) have now won three straight and have scored double-digits in all five games this year. The Golden Bears fall to 1-5 following the loss.

Amherst jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the first quarter but Western New England responded. In the second, they outscored the Jeffs 5-4 and trailed 8-6 at the break. A wild third quarter featured a total of 14 goals as the Golden Bears evened the score at 14-14 going into the final 15 minutes of regulation.

Charlie Gill '16 scored less than one minute into the fourth quarter to put Amherst back up by one. Exactly a minute later, Park tallied an unassisted marker that proved to be the game-winner as Adam Knapton '14 of Western New England tacked on a late score with :14 seconds remaining.

The Jeffs held a 47-43 edge in shots and 35-27 advantage in groundballs.

Devin Acton '14 and Aaron Mathias '14 netted hat-tricks for the Jeffs while Acton added an assist as well. Gill and Patrick Moroney '14 both scored two goals while Quinn Maroney '16 and Sam Lawlor '16 scored one each. Quinn Moroney led the team with three assists and Johno Gibbons '15 had a game-high 10 groundballs.

Greg Majno '14 started in net for the Jeffs and played all 60 minutes in a winning effort with 19 saves. Brandon Body '15 played between the posts for Western New England and made 11 saves.

Amherst is back on the field Friday, Mar. 21 versus Hamilton at 1 p.m.
